Amnesty International USA: Free Chen Zhenping & Defend Freedom of Religion in China

By Amnesty International USA

[Note from FOFG editor: We originally posted this on March 25, 2013.  We are changing the post date to today to give Ms. Chen’s case some additional attention.]

Falun Gong practitioner Chen Zhenping was detained in August 2008 and sentenced to eight-years behind bars. While imprisoned, she has endured brutal torture and ill-treatment- all because of her religious beliefs. Chen Zhenping is being denied access to legal representation. She has not seen her family since March 2009.

Tens of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners have been detained since 1999, when the Chinese authorities labeled the group a “heretical organization” and a “threat to social and political stability”. Those who refuse to recant their beliefs are subject to increasingly severe treatment until they relent. Amnesty International considers all those detained solely for their peaceful practice of Falun Gong to be prisoners of conscience.
