FoFG to Petition the NBA in the Name of Freedom

Friends of Falun Gong has created a petition asking NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to stand up to the Chinese communist regime, in response to the aftermath of an incident involving Coach Daryl Morey’s seemingly harmless tweet supporting the Hong Kong democracy movement.

We encourage you to sign the petition and tell the NBA NOT to bow to the Chinese Communist Party.

The entire content of the petition is reproduced below.

Tell the NBA not to bow to the Chinese Communist Party

Friends of Falun Gong is a human rights organization whose mission is to support the freedom of belief of persons who practice Falun Gong, particularly in China where the practice originated, and where it is currently being violently suppressed and persecuted. Falun Gong is a self-cultivation system which includes gentle meditation exercises and teaches its adherents to follow the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance in their lives. Like you, we too are great supporters of the Chinese people and admirers of their ancient culture. That is why we support their freedom of belief so firmly.

The persecution of Falun Gong is severe and brutal in China. This peaceful group of people has been defamed mercilessly in China’s state controlled media whose influence reaches around the world. Falun Gong adherents have been imprisoned, tortured and killed in a large-scale, comprehensive, state-run campaign aimed at erasing the practice from the face of the earth.

The CCP has reached new levels of cruelty in their suppression, by using imprisoned Falun Gong practitioners as a source of living transplant organs. These prisoners of conscience are carved up and their parts are sold for a great profit to wealthy Chines and foreign organ transplant tourists.

Although the facts defy imagination, they have been well documented and confirmed by every serious investigation to look into them. These facts have been published by the United States annual report on human rights and validated by numerous legislative bodies worldwide, including the United States Senate, by unanimous resolution.

Recently, an independent tribunal in London, chaired by Sir Geoffrey Nice QC, thoroughly and publicly reviewed all the available evidence about organ transplant abuse against Falun Gong practitioners by the CCP and also concluded that it is a wide-spread practice in China.

After the tweet issued by Daryl Morey and the subsequent reaction by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) you have clearly come face to face with what it truly means to do business in China and access the Chinese market. It becomes a direct challenge to our values, ethics and freedoms. It is a great challenge indeed due to three main factors. One is the incredible size and profit potential of the Chinese market, two is the all-consuming and often vicious suppression of the Chinese people by the CCP and three is the self-censorship the CCP demands in order to access the Chinese market. The recent experience of the NBA demonstrates as well as anything how scared the CCP is of hearing the people around the world condemn their inhumane activities.

Commissioner Silver, it is ultimately up to you and the other NBA stakeholders to decide how you will handle the complicated issues faced by the NBA and its relationship with China. Friends of Falun Gong, as well as a great many Americans, hope you will provide an example and communicate the principles and values of our country to China, and help them to understand the importance of personal liberties and the system of democracy. Chinese people respect America and dream of having the same freedoms we have here. This is why many Chinese attempt to study, immigrate and raise their children here. It is the CCP that wants to show their muscle to you and the Chinese people by bringing a famous and respectable American organization to its knees. We hope you can represent the NBA and American people with the highest form of your conscience on this matter.
