Right Honorable David Blunkett MP

Secretary of State for the Home Department

Re:       Ms. Lin Lili

Home Office Reference No. L1053356

Dear Secretary Blunkett:

We are a U.S.-based nonprofit human rights organization consisting of about 1,000 Americans who support the freedom of belief of persons who practice Falun Gong, but who do not practice Falun Gong themselves. We are writing to you because we are deeply concerned about the current status and possible deportation back to China of LiLi Lin.

As you are aware by this time, Ms. Lin applied for asylum in October 2001 while living in Manchester on the grounds of being a Falun Gong practitioner. In April 2002, she married her husband, Jinfei Zhang, and moved from Manchester to Liverpool to join him. She informed the Home Office of her change of address and since then has regularly reported to the Home Office in Liverpool. Her request for asylum was denied but the notification was sent to her old address in Manchester. As she never received the notice of refusal in Liverpool, she could not appeal in time and was therefore detained and told she would be immediately deported.

Ms. Lin obeyed all the local laws required of her and has done nothing wrong. She has an excellent case of asylum on the grounds of persecution based on her beliefs. She will be in grave danger should be deported back to China. Please visit our website http://www.fofg.org (Friends of Falun Gong USA) for well-documented reports about the persecution faced by practitioners all over the world, and especially in China. It is truly shocking and something no civilized nation, or human being, can allow in good conscience.

We urge you to intervene on her behalf and are confident that you have the capacity to remedy this unfortunate situation. We look forward to hearing positive news about this case.

Sincerely yours,

Alan Adler
