REAL hosts International Human Rights Day at Press Club

Human rights activists will observe the International Human Rights Day  at the National Press Club, Washington DC, on Thursday to call for protection of vulnerable people around the world.

Global human rights issues that will be discussed include women, children, minority rights, freedom of conscience, the challenge of identity group extremists, genocide in Darfur, Sudan,and Balochistan, persecution of Christian minorities in Pakistan, the oppression of the Falun Dafa/Gong in the People’s Republic of China and brutal oppression in Bahrain.

The event has been organized by Jeffrey Imm, founder of the Responsible for Equality and Liberty (R.E.A.L), whose motto is “choose love, not hate.” He is an advocate of Gandhian tolerance for all.

Imm, who has been organizing the event on a yearly basis, will speak on the future of global human rights in the face of global poverty and the impact on children’s rights, women’s rights, and minority rights

Imm said that the event is being held on December 8, as December 10 – the 63rd anniversary of the passage of Universal Declaration of Human Rights — is Saturday.

Speakers, who are defenders of human rights, include:

* Mohamed Yahya, Damanga Coalition for Freedom and Democracy and Niemat Ahmadi, United to End Genocide will speak on the continuing genocide and human rights violations in Darfur and Sudan.
* Dr. Nazir Bhatti, Pakistan Christian Congress will speak on the human rights violations of Christian minority, who are treated like slaves and killed under the blasphemy law, in Pakistan.
* Carolyn Cook, United for Equality will speak on supporting American Women’s Constitutional Equality, and explaining the essential need for the Equal Rights Amendment (E.R.A.). Not many people know but women still do not enjoy equal status under the U.S. consitution.
*A senior journalist and Balochistan area expert will speak on the oppression and abuse of the Baloch people by the Pakistan’s Frontier Corps, Military Intelligence and Inter-Services. Intelligence. He will also highlight the human rights abuses being committed by the Baloch militant outfits.
* Jared Pearman, spokesperson for the Falun Dafa Association of Washington DC, will speak on the general oppression in the People’s Republic of China and the reign of terror unleashed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
* Husain Abdulla, Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) will speak on behalf of Bahranis oppressed by government forces that seek to deny democracy.
