A Microcosm of China on New York City Streets

While Xi Jinping visited American officials and CEOs last month, US residents wanted to show their support for ending the persecution of Falun Gong in China. However, just like in China, censors came out to stop them. Chinese men in suits, some reportedly from the Chinese consulate in New York, enshrouded peaceful protestors with large Chinese flags so they could not be seen as President Xi’s motorcade passed by.
While Friends of Falun Gong holds out hope that President Xi will eventually help end the persecution and human rights abuses in China, the behavior of Chinese consulate officials reflects Beijing’s all-too-common response to anyone that stands up for the rights of those oppressed by the Chinese Communist Party.
