Remarks for Falun Gong Event
Stephen Woodworth
Member of Parliament for Kitchener Centre
January 31, 2012
Good Afternoon,
I am not able to spend much time with you today, but I did not want to miss the opportunity to be here. I want to do my part to help you remain hopeful in spite of the persecution faced by your loved ones and friends.
This is the Year of the Dragon. The dragon is known for great strength and perseverance in the face of adversity. In this way the dragon is a suitable model for Falun Gong practitioners. May the strength and perseverance of the dragon be yours! May the Year of the Dragon be your Year!
When Falun Gong are persecuted it is because of laws and people who treat them as less than human.
This principle – that no law that treats any human being as less than human can ever be legitimate, no matter whose interest it serves and no matter whose philosophy says otherwise – must be established not just in China, but around the world. It protects not just Falun Gong practitioners, but everyone.
Even Canadian law must respect this principle. Let all of us, including every Parliamentarian, raise their voice against any law that treats any human being as less than human.
In this way Canada will bring hope to the world. In this way Canada will bring hope to the Falun Dafa.
Thank you.
