Friends of Falun Gong USA welcomes Zhou Xuefei

Wife of Atlanta resident is freed from Chinese labor camp after 38 months of imprisonment for practicing Falun Gong

NEW YORK—Friends of Falun Gong USA (FoFG), a U.S.-based human rights organization mandated to protect the rights of Falun Gong practitioners worldwide, is delighted to welcome Ms. Zhou Xuefei to the United States. Her husband, Sam Lu, worked tirelessly for her freedom, and with the support of many in the public and private sectors, their painful separation is over and they can enjoy their life together in Atlanta, free to practice their beliefs as they choose.

FoFG would like to extend its thanks and acknowledge the great efforts of the International Rescue Committee, U.S. Immigration, the U.S. Embassy in China and U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou, Georgia Senator Zell Miller, Atlanta residents, and that tireless champion of human rights, Congressman Chris Smith of New Jersey.  Last week, Congressman Smith spearheaded a resolution in the House of Representatives, urging the international community to sternly rebuke the People’s Republic of China for a litany of human rights abuses. The final vote was 402-2.

Congressman Smith’s legislation – H. Res. 530 – urges the Bush Administration to sponsor and aggressively pursue a resolution condemning China for its human rights abuses at the annual meeting of the United Nation’s Commission on Human Rights, which will meet later this month. This legislation shines an international spotlight on China’s crimes against humanity and gives hope to victims and their families worldwide who may not have a public voice to advocate for them as individuals.

Today, we congratulate Sam and his sweetheart Xuefei and join them in the joyous celebration of her freedom. We look forward to the day when all those who are suffering for their beliefs are free to live a normal happy life in peace, with their loved ones.
