Letter to Denmark Immigration

Mr. Bertal Harder

Minister of Refugees, Immigration and Integration Affairs
Holbergsgade 6

DK-1057 Copenhagen K

Denmark

Honorable Minister Harder:

I am writing on behalf of Friends of Falun Gong USA, a human rights organization mandated to protect the rights of people worldwide who practice Falun Gong. As you may know, Falun Gong is a peaceful spiritual practice based on the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance. As documented by numerous reports from the U.S. State Department and respected organizations like Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and Reporters Without Borders, its adherents have been brutally persecuted by the Chinese government for more than five years.

It is well-documented that Falun Gong practitioners are being treated inhumanely and unjustly and that the Chinese communist regime has failed to uphold its constitution by persecuting its own citizens. Practitioners have demonstrated no political motivations or agendas while enduring beatings, brainwashing, and torture. Such peaceful behavior is respected and supported by governments and human rights organizations around the world and is the reason why Falun Gong’s founder, Mr. Li Hongzhi, is a three-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee.

It has come to our attention that Liu Xiaotian (UDL # 1-79-356.617), a Falun Gong practitioner, has been denied refugee status in Denmark. We understand that Xiaotian has been severely traumatized by the deaths of his parents and by living life on the run. However, we believe he will turn his life around when he can be free from oppression, fear, and uncertainty; a life he can never have in China because he practices Falun Gong.

Our organization is asking the Refugee Board to rescind their deportation decision. Although the board might have its reasons for deportation based on Xiaotian’s interview, no practitioner, especially one so affected by the persecution, should be made to go back to China. If Xiaotian is returned to China he will be persecuted like his parents and millions of others. 1050 deaths of Falun Gong practitioners due to torture has been confirmed; however, the true number is estimated to be as high as 10,000+. Please protect the rights of this young Falun Gong practitioner and give him the opportunity to practice his beliefs in a democratic country.

Your leadership in giving a safe harbor to this Falun Gong practitioner will be a clear indication of your commitment to helping a young man regain a normal life and support his right to practice his beliefs. We ask that you do not deport Mr. Liu to China. Stand firmly with the rest of the world in supporting a peaceful and worthwhile practice that can only benefit society.

Yours respectfully,

Alan Adler
