The Minnesota State Senate voted on a number of issues as their most recent session came to a close. One bill, SF2090, “a resolution expressing concern over persistent and credible reports of systematic, state-sanctioned, forced organ harvesting from nonconsenting prisoners of conscience, primarily from Falun Gong practitioners imprisoned for their spiritual beliefs, and members of other religious and ethnic minority groups in the People’s Republic of China,” was unanimously passed on May 20, 2016.

Two of SF2090’s chief authors gave statements before the resolution came to a vote.

Senator Alice Johnson (DFL-District 37) informed the Senate about the Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing, 17-year-long persecution campaign against members of the Falun Gong faith, and said that tens of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners have been killed for their vital organs. Senator Johnson also emphasized that “awareness at every level is very crucial in ending the abuse.”

Senator Dan Hall (R-District 56) reminded everyone that Americans should continue to take the moral high ground, saying “America is the land of the free… America…we believe in freedom of religion, freedom of our bodies, and that we should be a light shining against misjustice wherever it is, any place in the world.”

Both senators’ remarks can be seen on the Minnesota Senate Media Services YouTube channel, under “Condemning State-Sanctioned Organ Harvesting.”

After SF2090 passed, senators congratulated their local Falun Gong practitioners and constituents in the gallery.
